How to use
Work through it like the real exam
- 1Print the paper, or open the PDF and write your answers on paper.
- 2Set a timer and work without notes — the real thing is timed and closed-book.
- 3Mark your work with the mark scheme, one marking point at a time, including M marks for method.
- 4Redo every question you lost marks on, then revise that topic.

Revision
Before you sit the paper
- Revise every topic this paper covers, using the free notes pages.
- Do the quick quiz on each topic and note where you lose marks.
- Practise the topical questions with the mark schemes.
- On calculator papers, give non-exact answers to 3 significant figures (angles to 1 d.p.) unless told otherwise.
Tips
Exam tips
Method marks are real marks
- Show every line of working — M marks are awarded for correct method even with a slip in the arithmetic.
- Keep unrounded values in your calculator and round only the final answer.
- Give answers the accuracy asked for: 3 s.f., or 1 d.p. for angles in degrees.
- Answer the exact command word: a “solve” needs the value of x, not a check.
Questions
About the Paper 4 style
How long should this paper take?
It mirrors Paper 4: 100 marks in 120 minutes, about 70 seconds per mark. The ten multiple-choice questions deserve roughly 10 minutes; that leaves about 105 minutes for the structured questions, plus a few minutes to check rounding and units. Questions 17 and 25 carry the largest blocks of marks — budget accordingly.
What accuracy should I give calculator answers to?
Keep full calculator accuracy through the working, then round to **3 significant figures** unless a question states otherwise (money often needs 2 decimal places, angles 1 decimal place). Rounded working passed through several steps loses accuracy marks — store values in the calculator memory instead.
Which topics appear most in the structured section?
Paper 4 famously mixes topics inside single questions: bounds inside a measurement, a quadratic inside a geometry problem, a probability tree inside a context. The mark scheme credits method, so write the formula first (quadratic formula, cosine rule, density links), substitute second, and only evaluate at the end.
