Section A: Multiple choice[20 marks]

Answer all questions. For each question, write the letter (A, B, C or D) of the correct answer.

  1. 1

Which instrument is the most suitable for measuring the internal diameter of a narrow pipe (about 2 cm)?

    1. Ametre rule
    2. Bvernier calipers
    3. Cmicrometer screw gauge
    4. Dmeasuring tape
    ( )
  2. 2

A cyclist travels 500 m in 40 s, then another 500 m in 60 s. The average speed for the whole journey is

    1. A10 m/s
    2. B8.3 m/s
    3. C12.5 m/s
    4. D20 m/s
    ( )
  3. 3

On a distance–time graph, a straight line sloping upwards shows

    1. Athe object at rest
    2. Bconstant acceleration
    3. Cconstant speed
    4. Ddeceleration
    ( )
  4. 4

A stone dropped from rest falls for 2.0 s. Ignoring air resistance (g = 10 m/s²), the distance it falls is

    1. A10 m
    2. B40 m
    3. C5.0 m
    4. D20 m

Revision checklist

  • Redo the WA1 and WA2 topics quickly: mechanics questions still appear, embedded inside longer items.
  • Describe the three states of matter with particle pictures: arrangement, separation and motion.
  • Explain changes of state with heating curves, naming the flat regions and what the energy does there.
  • Chain conduction, convection and radiation explanations with everyday examples (vacuum flask, sea breeze).
  • Calculate with Q = mcΔT and Q = mL, watching masses in g versus kg.
  • Sit all chapter quizzes once more, then this paper in one 90-minute block.

Exam tips

  • Budget about 1.5 minutes per mark and keep the last ten minutes for checking units and s.f.
  • Thermal explanations need three-part particle answers: arrangement, separation, motion.
  • In Q = mcΔT problems, convert grams to kilograms first; the commonest lost mark is a factor of 1000.
  • Flat regions on heating curves mean changing state — quote latent heat, never specific heat, there.

Questions about the EOY

What is tested in the Sec 3 Physics EOY?

The whole Sec 3 syllabus: measurement, kinematics, dynamics, moments, pressure, energy/work/power, the kinetic particle model, thermal processes and thermal properties of matter. Schools weight the newer thermal chapters heavily.

How long is the EOY paper?

School formats vary. This practice paper has 60 marks and takes 90 minutes, with twenty multiple-choice questions and five structured questions — a typical school EOY shape.

Is this paper based on a real school paper?

No. QuizQuip papers are written from scratch against the O-Level 6091 syllabus. QuizQuip is not affiliated with MOE or SEAB and does not host school or past examination papers.
