Term 3 or 4G2 / G3

Sec 4 Physics Prelim practice paper

The Prelim is the full-dress rehearsal for the O-Level examination, usually set in Term 3. It samples every topic from both years — mechanics, thermal physics, waves, light, electricity, magnetism and radioactivity — in O-Level Paper 1 and Paper 2 style.

Section A: Multiple choice[20 marks]

Answer all questions. For each question, write the letter (A, B, C or D) of the correct answer.

  1. 1

A wave of frequency 2.5 Hz has a wavelength of 0.60 m. Its speed is

    1. A4.2 m/s
    2. B3.1 m/s
    3. C1.5 m/s
    4. D0.24 m/s
    ( )
  2. 2

Which list gives electromagnetic waves in order of increasing frequency?

    1. Aradio, infrared, ultraviolet, gamma
    2. Bgamma, ultraviolet, infrared, radio
    3. Cultraviolet, gamma, radio, infrared
    4. Dinfrared, radio, gamma, ultraviolet
    ( )
  3. 3

Light passes from air into glass at 30° to the normal. The refracted angle is

    1. A30°
    2. B19°
    3. C49°
    4. D45°
    ( )
  4. 4

An object placed between F and 2F of a converging lens forms an image that is

    1. Areal, inverted and magnified
    2. Breal, inverted and diminished
    3. Cvirtual, upright and diminished
    4. Dvirtual, upright and magnified
    ( )

Revision checklist

  • Re-learn the formula sheet actively: v = fλ, ρgh, W = mgh, P = W/t, V = IR, P = VI, F = BIL, Vs/Vp = Ns/Np, Q = mcΔT, half-life halving.
  • Drill the multi-step electricity questions: series-parallel reduction, then currents and p.d.s through each branch.
  • Practise explain questions in mark-scheme language: two conditions, three properties, name the rule and apply it.
  • Refresh the O-Level practical electricity set: fuse choice, earthing, kW h costs, and household hazards.
  • Finish with radioactivity: balanced nuclear equations, background-corrected half-life calculations, and use-the-right-isotope reasoning.
  • Sit all twelve chapter quizzes, then this paper in one 120-minute block under exam conditions.

Exam tips

  • About 1.5 minutes per mark: 80 marks means checking your pace every 20 marks, not every question.
  • For every calculation, write the formula, the substitution with units, then the answer to 3 s.f.
  • Explain questions: count the marks and give that many distinct points — one idea per sentence.
  • If a question mixes topics (a crane with an electromagnet and a motor), answer each part with that part’s own physics, not a blend.

Questions about the Prelim

What is tested in the Sec 4 Physics Prelim?

Everything from Sec 3 and Sec 4: measurement and mechanics, thermal physics, waves and light, lenses, static and current electricity, D.C. circuits, practical electricity, magnetism, electromagnetism, induction and radioactivity — the full O-Level 6091 scope.

How long is the Prelim paper?

Schools differ, but most set an O-Level-style paper: multiple-choice plus structured questions. This practice paper has 80 marks and takes 120 minutes.

Is this paper based on a real school paper?

No. QuizQuip papers are written from scratch against the O-Level 6091 syllabus. QuizQuip is not affiliated with MOE or SEAB and does not host school or past examination papers.
