What’s tested

All chapters of the two-year syllabus, in O-Level style: multiple-choice questions plus structured questions with calculations, genetic diagrams, data interpretation and explain questions. Schools differ in emphasis; check your school’s Prelim topic list.

Revision checklist

  • Rehearse the genetic diagrams actively: Hh × Hh (3 : 1), Hh × hh (1 : 1), and the ABO cross with IA, IB and IO.
  • Drill the data calculations: ventilation and cardiac outputs, percentage change in osmosis experiments, biomagnification factors, genetic probabilities.
  • Practise the selection chain in full sentences: variation, competition, differential survival, reproduction, gradual change.
  • Refresh every system diagram: nephron, alveolus, neurone, flower, heart and placenta.
  • Sit all fourteen chapter quizzes, then this paper in one 120-minute block under exam conditions.

Exam tips

  • About 1.5 minutes per mark: 80 marks means checking your pace every 20 marks, not every question.
  • Genetic diagrams: show the parent genotypes, gametes, and offspring genotypes AND phenotypes — each stage earns marks.
  • Explain questions: count the marks and give that many distinct points — one idea per sentence.
  • Data questions: read the axes twice, quote the numbers you use, and attach units to every answer.

Questions about the Prelim

What is tested in the Sec 4 Biology Prelim?

The full two-year syllabus: homeostasis and response, infectious diseases, plant nutrition and transport, organisms and the environment, molecular genetics, reproduction and inheritance. Schools weight topics differently; the common format is multiple-choice plus structured questions.

How long is the Prelim paper?

Formats vary by school. This practice paper has 80 marks and takes 120 minutes — twenty multiple-choice questions and seven structured questions, close to the pacing of a full O-Level-style sitting.

Is this paper based on a real school paper?

No. QuizQuip papers are written from scratch against the O-Level 6093 syllabus. QuizQuip is not affiliated with MOE or SEAB and does not host school or past examination papers.
