Term 2G2 / G3

Sec 3 Physics WA2 practice paper

WA2 is usually the Term 2 assessment. In the common scheme it covers the middle Sec 3 mechanics block: moments and the centre of gravity, pressure in solids and liquids, and the energy, work and power calculations that run through the rest of the syllabus.

Section A: Multiple choice[10 marks]

Answer all questions. For each question, write the letter (A, B, C or D) of the correct answer.

  1. 1

The SI unit of the moment of a force is the

    1. Anewton per metre
    2. Bnewton metre
    3. Cjoule per second
    4. Dmetre per newton
    ( )
  2. 2

A 300 N child sits 2.0 m from the pivot of a balanced seesaw. A 200 N child sits on the other side, at a distance of

    1. A1.3 m
    2. B2.0 m
    3. C4.5 m
    4. D3.0 m
    ( )
  3. 3

An object is in stable equilibrium when its centre of gravity is

    1. Aas high as possible above a narrow base
    2. Blow, with a wide base
    3. Coutside the base of support
    4. Ddirectly above the heaviest point
    ( )
  4. 4

One pascal (Pa) is equivalent to

    1. Aone newton per square metre
    2. Bone newton metre
    3. Cone kilogram per square metre
    4. Done joule per metre
    ( )

Revision checklist

  • Apply the principle of moments about any pivot, and locate centres of gravity of uniform and non-uniform objects.
  • Explain stability through the position of the centre of gravity relative to the base.
  • Calculate pressure as F/A for solids, and ρgh plus atmospheric pressure for liquids.
  • Explain hydraulic systems with pressure transmitted equally: F = P × A on each piston.
  • Chain W = mgh, P = W/t and efficiency = useful ÷ input through multi-step problems.
  • Sit the Chapter 4–6 quizzes first, then this paper in one 55-minute block.

Exam tips

  • In moments problems, always state which pivot you take moments about before adding anything.
  • Perpendicular distance is measured to the line of action — draw the dashed line if the diagram is not clear.
  • Pressure answers need Pa (N/m²); convert areas in cm² to m² before substituting.
  • Efficiency is a percentage of energy, never larger than 100% — use it to sanity-check answers.

Questions about the WA2

What is tested in Sec 3 Physics WA2?

Most schools test Chapters 4–6: moments and centre of gravity, pressure in solids and liquids with hydraulics, and energy, work, power and efficiency. Your school’s Term 2 outline gives the exact scope.

How long is the WA2 paper?

Formats vary by school. This practice paper has 40 marks and takes 55 minutes, mixing ten multiple-choice questions with structured questions.

Is this paper based on a real school paper?

No. QuizQuip papers are written from scratch against the O-Level 6091 syllabus. QuizQuip is not affiliated with MOE or SEAB and does not host school or past examination papers.
