Term 2G2 / G3

Sec 2 Science WA2 practice paper

WA2 usually falls in Term 2. After forces and heat, many classes move through chemical changes and then ecosystems — the rest of a typical Textbook 2A block. Schools do not all stop at the same chapter, so treat this scope as a common pattern, not a rule.

Model answers with a mark for each creditworthy point — for marking at home or in class.

What’s tested

Chapter 3 (chemical changes) and Chapter 4 (interactions within ecosystems). Electrical systems and the human body topics are more often later in the year and in the end-of-year paper.

Which change is a chemical change?

    3. Csteam condensing
    4. Dmagnesium burning in air
    ( )

Revision checklist

  • Tell a chemical change from a physical change, and recall the conditions for rusting.
  • Write what an acid and an alkali produce, and recall the hydrogen test.
  • Read a food chain: producer, consumer, predator, prey, and the direction of the arrows.
  • Give one biotic factor and one abiotic factor in an unfamiliar habitat.
  • Sit this paper in 40 minutes and mark it with the mark scheme.

Exam tips

  • Rusting needs both oxygen and water. Paint, oil or a dry place can stop it.
  • Food-chain arrows show energy transfer, from food to feeder.
  • A population change needs a reason: more food, less food, or more predators.
  • Name a specific observation. “A reaction happens” scores nothing.

Questions about the WA2

What is tested in Sec 2 Science WA2?

There is no single national list. A common Term 2 block, after forces and heat, is chemical changes and interactions within ecosystems. Some schools include part of electrical systems instead. Check your school’s assessment outline.

Why is there no Sec 2 WA3 paper here?

Published school outlines do not agree on a third weighted assessment. Sec 1 WA3 is left as “in preparation” for the same reason at that point in the year. The Sec 2 end-of-year paper covers the later chapters.

How long is this paper?

This practice paper has 30 marks and takes 40 minutes.
